Flying Turtle Game for Android

Everyone knows turtles are very slow, so we can’t imagine how these animals can participate in a race. Probably the players will fall asleep during the game, and the turtles won’t reach the finish line at all :)

I guess the developers of this Turtle game also thought about it. That’s why iTreeGamer studio had to turn the game into a dynamic arcade. The Turtle with big eyes is the main character of the game. He wants to go around the world, but his slow movement speed makes this dream impossible… So he needs a good idea to come up with. Probably the most possible version is to replace the crawling turtle with a turtle that rides on his armor at a high speed.

The developers have created many missions to make the game more interesting. During the first mission, you have to collect 100 eggs, 7 times to slid excellently and 5 times to touch the clouds. And you have just 5 attempts to do it.

All gameplay is accompanied by pleasant music and joyous squeaks of turtles. The game is compatible with all devices running Android 2.1 and higher, but it didn’t run on Android 3.0, probably this issue will be solved later. The Flying Turtle can be downloaded from Android Market.

Android’s Market Share Grows to 36 Percent

Gartner – one of the world’s leading information technology research and advisory companies – has tried to find out which operating systems and phone manufacturers were holding the largest market shares in the first quarter of 2011.

According to Gartner’s research, Android’s market share was only 9.6 percent in Q1 2010, but this year it has grown rapidly and made up 36 percent. Meanwhile other big platforms are losing their market shares. Symbian held 44.2 percent of the market back in the first quarter of 2010, but now it has only a bit more than the half of it — 27.4 percent.

As for Microsoft’s Windows Mobile, its market share was 6.8 percent last year, and now it’s only 3.6 percent – about twice less again. However, Microsoft shouldn’t lose its hope – their new Windows Phone 7 and especially its fresh updates can change the situation in the market significantly. So perhaps the numbers will be different in the second quarter of 2011.

So while other mobile operating systems lose their market shares, Google’s OS shows almost a four times growth. Interesting statistics, hm?

As for the mobile manufacturers, HTC’s (which uses Android as its main platform, by the way) market share doubled in Q1 2011; it increased from 0.9 percent to 2.2 percent. Nokia’s share was 30.6 percent last year, and now it has decreased to 25.1 percent. Apple’s share was 2.3 percent in Q1 2010, and it’s 3.9 percent this year – good result!

Google Music App Getting Its First Update

Finally Google came up with its first update of the amazing Google Music application. The update takes the application to the version 3.0.1. The main feature of the update is the chance to delete the music stored in the microSD card of the handsets.

Together with this new feature, the update is there to fix some of the bugs that were present in the previous version of the application. Now the app works perfectly with the custom versions of the Gingerbread ROMs.

The application was presented during the Google IO developer conference, and it’s used for the following:

You download a helper app which finds and then uploads your music to your Google account of your choosing. Initial setup is pretty quick — uploading music is, well, dependent on your connection, of course. Music syncs in the background, so you can go about your business while you wait for song after song after song after song to upload.

The update is being rolled out with the help of the invitation system. The users are getting invitation from Google, so if you didn’t receive yours, do not worry, the update process takes a while.

Google Maps for Android Gets Updated

Google’s mobile operating system is currently the most popular one in the world, and this makes the company work harder not to lose its reputation. Sp all apps for Android are being updated to satisfy even the most capricious users’ taste. Now it’s Google Maps’ turn, and all you can download it from Android Market now.

Google Maps 5.0 is available with three main changes, they refer to:

  1. Check in and check out directly from Place pages.
  2. Change your Latitude work and home addresses.
  3. See the redesigned transit station pages.

After this upgrade you’ll be able to give a rating directly from the Place page. This is very useful if you use the Location History that allows you to see where you have been and how much time you have spent there. So with this feature you’ll be able to withdraw some interesting statistics for you. So the Latitude feature will be a good tool in tracking your daily activity to find out where you have spent more time — at home or working. And even if the addresses are changed rapidly, you can enter new addresses right from inside the Latitude. Finally, the third update refers to the transit station pages that will help you to plan your trip easier, because “a list of upcoming scheduled departures for different lines, all the transit lines serving the station, and links to nearby transit stations.”

Probably they will be some hidden features, so it’ll be very kind to hear your thoughts if you have already downloaded it and tried it out.

Cheap phones not always come with such great features but if you search through the www.dialaphone.co.uk you’ll find best meeting your needs.

Android 3.1 and Atom: Two in One

Almost all major manufacturers of computer equipment are trying to develop a device that will combine Intel’s Atom platform with Google’s Android 3.1 OS.

We have heard that soon Lenovo, Acer and ASUS will introduce such models on the market. Acer and ASUS have already released tablets based on Android 3.0, and soon they’ll probably get the new 3.1 version, too. The only thing is that we don’t yet know is what will the Android devices with Intel inside (heh :)) look like – will they be tablets or some hybrid laptops?

Many manufacturers prefer to use ARM processors in their tablets, and this doesn’t let Intel take leadership position in this field. But perhaps with the release of the new Android 3.1, Intel will manage to strengthen its market positions.

Developers say that in the second half of this year many manufacturers will produce Android tablets based on Atom Z600 (Oak Trail). Some companies even have experience of cooperation with Intel, and HTC is one of those. The HTC X9500 Shift (HTC’s first UMPC device) is the brightest example of this cooperation; it’s a slider device with a QWERTY keyboard, the main feature of which is the SnapVUE technology, thanks to which the integration of two platforms on a single device — Windows Mobile (Qualcomm 400 MHz) and Windows Vista (an Intel 800 MHz) – was made possible.

So now we can only believe that the cooperation that began back in 2007 will be fruitful and will bring many new Android devices based on Intel’s Atom.
