Reducing You Cell Phone Bill

Pennies make pounds, and pounds make profits. It’s always been that way, but it seems that in today’s economy the penny needs to stretch farther that ever before. Cell phones are now a big part of our lives and we have gotten to the point where we rely on them to do many thinks like paying bills and balancing a budget. To have a decent cell phone, you have to have Cell Phone Plans. This is fine, but there are some things you can do to make having a cell phone a bit less costly.

Prepaid Plans

Sometimes cell phone plans end up being far too costly. If you want the benefits of having a cell phone but not the expense of a costly plan, you can go the prepaid route. This is really good for those people who don’t really use their phone much. Not everyone is glued to their mobile and you can put an allotted amount on your phone and once you use up your minutes, that’s it. You don’t have to worry about getting hit with a huge bill because you went over on your minutes.

Unlocked Phones

One of the downsides to having a cell phone plan is the huge cost of the phone itself. You can go to may online retailers and buy an unlocked phone. This basically means that you can get any brand or style of phone that you want and any SIM card will activate the device. This is a great way to fulfill your contract that you’re tied into and not have to spend a fortune to get an upgrade.

Text Apps

If you are constantly going over on your minutes, you might want to look into getting a text app for your phone. You can download them and one app, Textfree, has become a popular way for people to be able to text without having to pay for it. It’s totally unlimited and you can send picture messages as well. Some will even allow you to make calls. Just realize you’ll likely need a cell phone plan, but there are ways that you can make it more affordable.

Family Plans

This is an old standby but it’s still a good way to save money. It should be noted that getting into a family plan doesn’t mean that you have to be related. The phone companies don’t care who’s on your plan, they just want you to pay your bill. You can usually cut down everyone’s costs and get big discounts on your plan. There is, however, one big downside to this approach: other people are using the plan as well. If they go over in their minutes, you go over on your minutes. So if you go in this direction, you should talk about this possibility and how to respond to it beforehand.

If you have any questions about different ways you can make your cell phone plan cheaper, talk to your provider and ask. There are tons of ways you can get by without paying. You might be able to cut out portions of your monthly bill completely. Look into it and see where you could be saving.

Ice Cream Sandwich Shown in Video

It’s not a secret for anyone that Android is one of the most popular platforms in the world now (or even the most popular one!). With each update it’s becoming better and better, that’s why everybody is waiting for the new Ice Cream Sandwich so impatiently — we can already imagine how great it will be.

Ice Cream Sandwich is a synthesis of two older versions of Android — Honeycomb that was designed for tablets and Gingerbread designed for smartphones, so it’s expected to include the main advantages of both, being compatible with both smartphones and tablets. So with the Ice Cream Sandwich update Android OS has all the chances to become more popular than iOS or any other platform.

Well, we already know Ice Cream Sandwich will be launched in October or November, but we haven’t seen it yet. Now we can see it in a video from Engadget. It’s really very interesting how Ice Cream Sandwich works, so do not waste time and push the play button.

How to Restrict Certain Apps From Being Downloaded From Android Market

Android Market is growing very fast, and it has its negative sides, too, because more apps mean more threats. Plus, it becomes more difficult to control the market. In this case, probably, the most comfortable and acceptable app market is App Store, but we, Android lovers, want the Android Market not to yield to Apple’s one.

So before Google comes up with a new way to check the quality of the apps from the market and to remove the bad ones, let’s see how we can restrict certain apps from being downloaded from the Android Market.

Each app has a limitation on who can download it. Generally, there are the following groups of users:

  • Everyone
  • Low maturity
  • Medium maturity
  • High maturity

So if you want to block downloading apps from any group of this list, go to Menu>Settings, choose the appropriate level of app and set a PIN password. Now every time the device owner wants to download a certain app he/she is not allowed, he/she will be asked to type the PIN password, which of course, you haven’t told him/her.

This doesn’t mean the app won’t be shown in the phone, no. But most likely is not necessary at all. The fact is the user won’t be able to download it.
