HP CEO Claims Android To Stop Being Open-Source OS

At HP Global Partner conference in Las Vegas Hewlett Packard’s CEO Meg Whitman said once Google acquires Motorola, Android will stop being an open-source operating system. This will create a very good ground for webOS bought by HP in 2010. According to HP’s CEO, once the predictions come to be true, webOS may take Android’s place of an open-source platform.

No secret Google will complete the acquisition of Motorola in coming months. It’s not clear why the software giant wants to get it, but most likely the company has plans to produce smartphones, tablets or something else in future, and Motorola’s difficult financial situation looks like a gift from heaven.

Almost everything is ready for the deal, but no one knows what Google will turn into after it. So I advise HP not to rejoice so soon. Moreover, Google always mentions it will keep Android as an open-source OS, so I do not understand Meg Whitman.

In general, Google has won its position due to its openness to the public. Don’t you think it would be unreasonable to deprive people of “why” they have chosen this platform.

Series 3 of Android Collectable Robots Leaked

Being a collector is very popular nowadays, because it keeps people busy and helps them forget the every day concerns and just relax. With the growth of Android there appeared little green robots beloved by everyone. Google could not be ignorant of people’s devotion to these robots, therefore decided to stimulate their production. And now we have the third series coming.

Yesterday AndroidGuys obtained a leaked document and discovered 8 new miniature Android figures. One of them is an all-in-red robot, one comes with the Nexus logo, and the third is a cool owl-looking Android. But there are still 5 models remaining unknown.

We yet have no info as to when the third series Android robots will be launched and at what price they will be available. But I am sure Android fans will wait as much as necessary. Note that if you’ve started collecting these robots, you will never stop. It’s very similar to the situation we had when the Pokemons first appeared and everybody started collecting them.

Rootsmart Can Get to Windward of Bouncer

Google has been always thinking there is no need for an antivirus app for Android handsets. However, the latest reports made the tech giant seriously think about the security of its devices and the launched “Bouncer” antivirus acts like gates not allowing any kind of malware to pass through. But I have to disappoint you, as turns out the app doesn’t work so effectively as it seems.

Forbes says a North Carolina State University professor wrote in his blog that his friends and he had found a new malware called “Rootsmart,” which can pass through without being caught. It can be done due to a process called “privilege escalation” allowing apps to download a new code from a remote server and hide the data transfer in the phone’s normal communications.

You got it right — the downloaded code is the famous “Gingerbreak” known for its access to users’ SMS, phone calls and data. It’s also known as recording sensitive phone conversations.

Consequently, even the “Bouncer” can’t help you fight against malware, and the best solution remains your caution, thus do not download and install apps from unknown or unreliable sources.

Android Activations Soar Over Christmas

Since its launch, Google’s Android operating system has fast become the main competitor for Apple’s iOS. Whilst Apple’s OS is limited to Apple devices, Google has somewhat of an edge in that numerous third party manufacturers have also chosen to utilise their software. Chief among them is Samsung, whose range of Galaxy phones in particular has helped Android to garner many new customers over the Christmas period. Numbers rose to a record high as hundreds of thousands of people opened their Android smartphones on Christmas morning. Figures show that a massive 3.7 million Android devices were switched on for the first time over the Christmas weekend, building on already solid figures of 700,000 phones activated every day in the build-up to the holiday – according to research on mobile phones carried out by RMP.

One of the questions that many are now asking is whether or not Google can keep up this high level of subscriptions. Apple performed similarly well over the Christmas period, and with their iPhone 5 due for release sometime in 2012 Google definitely have a fight on their hands. However, their own 2012 release schedule is something to be excited about, with high-end quad-core smartphones such as the HTC Edge committed to adopting the Android OS. .

Another potential selling point for Android phones in 2012 is the most recent system update, a new version of the software known as Ice Cream Sandwich. This upgrade has already been launched on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and will also be released to a selection of other high-end Android devices in the next few months. Bringing new exciting features and many improvements to Android’s already capable system, Ice Cream Sandwich may help the company gain an edge over Apple who disappointed fans earlier this year when they released the iPhone 4S, a slightly upgraded but not substantially different take on the iPhone 4, rather than the revolutionary iPhone 5 model that was expected.

Almost 5 Million Android Devices Suffering of a New Trojan Horse

A couple of days ago Symantec made a shocking statement saying there are 1-5 million Android devices infected with a virus called “Android.Counterclank,” which is another variant of earlier discovered Trojan horse called “Android.Tonclank.”

As the malware is embedded in different apps, once you download and install one of them, you may be sure your handset is infected. That may be dangerous, because the malware send information from the device, such as MAC Address, SIM Serial, IMEI, and IMSI, back to the malicious host. So if you care of your personal information, you must be more careful.

To find out whether you are infected or not there are many ways, but the simplest one is to look at your home screen, and if there is the presence of a “search” icon on the home screen, which is depicted in the graphic below, then it means “you are infected, guy.”

Moreover, Symantec has publish a list, where are mentioned some of the apps that “offer” you this new Trojan horse. They are:

iApps7 Inc

  • Counter Elite Force
  • Counter Strike Ground Force
  • CounterStrike Hit Enemy
  • Heart Live Wallpaper
  • Hit Counter Terrorist
  • Stripper Touch girl

Ogre Games

  • Balloon Game
  • Deal & Be Millionaire
  • Wild Man

redmicapps

  • Pretty women lingerie puzzle
  • Sexy Girls Photo Game
  • Sexy Girls Puzzle
  • Sexy Women Puzzle

I recommend uninstall these apps from your Android device, and wait till the same antivirus company or someone else will enlarge the list. Anyway, that’s not hard to believe there are Android viruses, but Google continues claiming its native OS doesn’t need an antivirus program.
