Tags: , , , , , , , , , ,

Sony Ericsson is planning to enter the smartbook arena. But, the most surprising fact (or should I say, rumor) is that it will be an Android powered device. According to the guys at GadgetMix.com, some Taiwanese source suggests that Sony Ericsson is working on a smartbook to be released by the end of this year. No details about the device were available, but it is speculated that the the device “will use ARM processors to run some mobile OS, possibly Android.”.

This news is nothing more than a rumor as of now. But, it remains to be seen, how far this device will be acceptable in the market. Sony Ericsson is generally famous for its high prices. Will that be the case with this device too ?

AT&T on works to launch HTC Fiesta

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

A couple of months back, there had been reports that Google plans to launch 15-20 Android devices by the end of this year. Also, there were reports that 50% of HTC phones releasing next year, would come loaded with Android. Both these news seem to be fruitifying now. Almost every day, news of some or the other Android device in the making crops up. Now, according to AndroidGuys, AT&T is working on an Android-powered device, the HTC Fiesta.

The speculated specs of the device are :

  • ARM11 Processor
  • Phone Keypad
  • 240×320 Display
  • MIDI, AAC, MP3, 3GP, OGG.

Having a look at the specs, it makes me suppose that this would be a low-end device, targeting the masses. Will it have touch screen ? And, will it have features like inbuilt GPS ? Possible! Moreover, we have no news about the pricing or the release date of the device.

So, are you already eyeing this device ? Just stay glued to GAndroidmix and we will keep you abreast with any further details regarding the phone.

Android Eclair or Flan to support 3D gaming

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Recently in an interview, vice president of engineering at Google, Andy Rubin reported that devices that ship-in with the later versions of Android will support advanced features like 3D gaming, as they will sport the most advanced processors in the market.

And, he mentioned the name of Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm Inc and said that this would provide Android devices of the future the same speed as that of desktop computers of four years ago.

When we talk of “later versions of Android”, the only versions we know, as of now, are Android Eclair and Flan. Does that mean devices with these (or one of these) versions will come loaded with the mighty Snapdragon Chipset?

If this news is to be believed, then Android devices will blow away the PSPs and Nintendos in the market. Also, the OS would be one of the fastest running OS in the mobile phone arena.

The OS version pipeline of Android seems to be really massive, with great developments with every update. The version with support for such advanced features, would definitely give cut-throat competition to any other OS in the market, however old and established it be.

So all you Android fanatics, get ready for some speed!

If you are a regular at xda-developers, you would be knowing that some time back in April, a senior member had posted “I work for a wireless developer firm and I have just received word from the US carrier (cannot disclose who yet) that the release date for the HTC Hero (Android) is October 11th 2009.” Now, that was amazing. But, the announcement seems to be fruitifying now. Have a look at the picture below :

Expect some Android devices by Touch Revolution this year

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

I have been always saying “Android is going places”, because Android is being launched in a large number of countries. But, Android is also exploring newer areas and newer horizons. Touch Revoltion, a company owned by a former Apple employee, is planning to launch a lot of Android devices. And interestingly, none of them is going to be a cell phone.

The company is working on three categories of products, home control devices, media control devices and home phones. Confused as to what are home phones ? This would be something like a cordless phone, which would work only indoors.

Does this mean that the applications meant for Android smartphone would also run on these devices ? Possible!! There are not many details about the devices.

Is T-Mobile G1 v2 going to be a high-profile 3G handset ?

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

According to a report by tmotoday, HTC is working on a 3G device which would sport TouchFlo 3D, and HTC Sense and will be launched in the month of September or October. Now, why do I say that these specs can be that of G1 v2 ? Because, the G1 v2 is supposed to release in the same time as this HTC’s “high-profile” device. Also, inclusion of HTC Sense in the specs brings out the speculation that it could possibly be an Android device.

All the Android devices currently in the market (HTC Dream, Magic and Hero) are all mid-range devices. But, a high-profile device, I suppose, will not be a mid-range one. So, may be its time to gear-up for a feature-packed Android device, and be ready to shell out a fortune!!
