Google’s Nexus 4 Gears Up To Change Industry With Smart Moves

Google recently announced is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean flagship smartphone- the LG Nexus 4 recently.  This year has been a relatively significant year for the mobile industry. There have been several cellphone manufacturing giants releasing their products in the market. The notable among them are Google and Microsoft. Google was a little late in announcing its devices however their release is possibly changing the mobile industry for the best.

Now the obvious question arises as to how Google is changing the industry? The first is the pricing it has announced. There are some websites on the internet that have labeled the LG Nexus 4 as a budget or a mid-range handset. This is something that surprises us as the LG Nexus 4 has an impressive range of specifications and it is placed in the same group as the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini and the HTC Desire X. If you take a look at the LG Nexus 4 you will find that this mobile phone has a 1.5 GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S 4 processor along with a 4.7 in 768×1280 HD touchscreen. The phone also has 2GB Ram and an 8 MP camera that is a rear facing one. This phone has an 8MP rear facing camera embedded with the latest version of the Jelly Bean OS making it ahead of other Android smartphones available in the market.

Now, for the above mobile phone specifications you typically will need to spend £400 to £550 approximately upfront. The cost of the iphone 5 in the UK is £529 SIM free and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 that costs £550. However this phone in question does not cost you high. Its pricing begins at £239 (SIM Free).

Google had planned a launch event for this new phone along with other devices however it had to be cancelled because of Hurricane Sandy. This launch event was supposed to take place in New York. There are expectations that Google will announce a later date for the event once the situation becomes normal. Google on the other hand, recently instead of laying down a date for the rescheduled event released a series of press releases where the gadgets spoke for themselves.

This move by Google however was not appreciated as this took place just minutes before another mobile company Microsoft was ready to launch the Windows Phone 8 mobile platform. If you reflect on the move you will find that this step taken by Google was a smart one. There were no excited marketing speeches or spiels just gadgets at better prices with much better prices.

Google took a bold step and did what it should have done. It permitted the gadgets to speak for themselves. There was no CEO muttering for two hours and no whopping from the crowd. The products were announced quietly and their powerful features did the talking. Once announced these orders successfully went up for pre-orders and this move is one that will definitely move the industry for good!

900,000 Android Activations Per Day

Not so long ago we learned Google activates around 500,000 Android devices per day. Afterwards this number increased and reached 550,000 devices/day. But this platform had more potential than expected, and with the growth of its popularity, Google started activating more and more devices per day. The last indicator we talked about was 700,000 devices/day, but actually the software giant was activating 850,000 Android-powered handsets per day starting from April. Now this number has grown and neared one million.

Andy Rubin, Google’s head of mobile, announced through Twitter the company is currently activating 900,000 devices per day. Looking at the tendency Google enlarges its production we can be sure it’s on the verge of reaching the million.

Moreover, Andy Rubin also answered the question whether he has any plans to leave Google. In particular, he said those rumors didn’t correspond to the reality and he would continue working at Google.

On the whole, this news is not surprising because Google has entered a new phase, and besides launching its own smartphones and tablet, the company has also acquired Motorola and is working on Jelly Bean, which will be on more handsets than Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. So wait for more gladsome news from the company in the near future.

Oracle Claims Google Earns 10 Million on its Patent

As Oracle lawsuit against Android continues, parties are now in the stage when even a single victory will be welcomed. Take for example the dates of court trials. And for this date Oracle and Google have their own considerations. Android explains it wants a later date since it is just busy now, and Oracle wants to get the continuation of trial to take place sooner.

The lawsuit concerns the use of Java by Google, which Oracle says is illegal. The court decided to set the next trial date on March 23. Oracle wants to bring the date 19 day closer. This company justifies its wish by the fact that Google generates millions of revenue by using an Oracle patented technology. Here is what Oracle says, “Each day’s worth of activations likely generates approximately 10 million USD in annual mobile advertising revenue for Google. This revenue does not even include all the other value Android generates for Google, ranging from Android Market revenue, to other Android-related services, to ensuring that Google will not be locked out of the mobile business, to lucrative relationships with manufacturers of myriad devices on which Android can and does run, to the inordinately valuable access Android provides to customers for its new social network service, Google+.”

It is clear Google will not be casting aside Java because of this trial, and maybe Oracle just wants some cash from that 10 million.

74 Percent of Americans Own Google or Apple Device

A brilliant image of what is happening in the mobile world in the US was given through a survey organized by Yankee Group, a market research company. The latter has asked 15,000 respondents in the US to find out their preferences related to smartphone brands. The results can be shocking especially for those manufacturers who are standing at the brim of disappearance from the market.

Yankee Group survey thus revealed the 74 percent of all US smartphone potential buyers will opt for either Android or Apple iPhone device. The 39 percent of those asked said they will go for Android OS handsets, and the 25 percent – for the iPhone. Yes, but what about the others? It should be noted that after these two, RIM’s BlackBerry got the third place. The others were spread with 9 percent wanting a Windows Phone device and 2 – Symbian OS (still alive?). The survey further disclosed that nearly half of US phone users already own a smartphone, and the 58 percent said they are going to change their ordinary handset with a smartphone in the near future.

This means that manufacturers, say like HTC, need more innovation and marketing genius to come close to Google and Apple, and the war for the tiny percent of customers in the US will be waged even more fiercely. Katie Lewis, an analyst at Yankee Group expressed this in this way, “Opportunities within the smartphone market abound, but we’ve reached a critical point where graves could be dug for several OS vendors, decisions made in the next three years are likely to seal the fate, good or bad, of many OSs. Now is the time for these vendors to fight for survival.” I think no further comment is needed.
