An MID loaded with Android : an offering by Eston

Another company that is going the Android way is Eston. The company is planning to launch an Android powered MID very soon. This device will be named MID-02 slider, and will be available with French carrier SFR.

The device runs on Intel Atom Z500 at 800 MHz, 512 MB RAM, 4GB of SSD storage, a 4.3″ touchscreen and a slide out QWERTY keyboard. There are no details available regarding the release date or the pricing of the device.

Android provides one of the best browsing experiences to its users. So, when Android is coupled with an MID, it would not be wrong if we expect it to be one of the best MIDs in the market.

How To : Downgrade or Upgrade the firmware (RC) version on T-Mobile G1

There are many occasions when one needs to downgrade/upgrade the firmware version on his/her T-Mobile G1. For example, to get root access on your G1, you need to have RC 29 (for the US version) or RC 7(for the UK version). But, if you have a device with a higher firmware, you need to downgrade to RC 29 or RC 7.

Here are the steps that you need to follow. But, perform these steps at YOUR OWN RISK, because if something goes wrong, your phone can be bricked forever.

  1. Use a micro SD card, that has been formatted with FAT 32 mode.
  2. Download the firmware version you wish to install. Rename the downloaded zip file to update.zip. Place the file in the root folder of your micro SD card, and put the card in your device.
  3. Turn the device power off.
  4. Keep the Home+End button pressed until you see the T-Mobile G1 logo.
  5. Now, press Alt+L on your keyboard.
  6. Now, press Alt+S to begin the update process on your device.
  7. Carefully follow the instructions on your screen. Then, press Home+Backspace button to finish the process.
  8. Your device will reboot a few times, to completely flash your device with the new firmware.

To check, if your new firmware has been flashed, go to Menu > Settings > About Phone. Scroll down to the Build Number. If it reads the firmware you just flashed, then the update has been performed correctly.

GNB Netbook to run Google Android OS!

A big wave of netbooks running Google Android OS are going to make their debut at the end of this year (or early next year). The company, GNB will be joining the market of netbooks running Google Android OS.

Our netbook site, Gadgetmix.com, reports that keyboard as-well-as touchpad, both are pathetic to use on this netbook. Reason? It is too small for touch-typing and too big for thumb typing. Battery life is also nothing to talk home about: just 2 hours. It uses 533MHz Freescale ARM processor and comes with a 7-inch WVGA (800 x 480) touchscreen

I would instead get a T-Mobile G1 with extended battery!

Is T-Mobile G1 v2 the first Android phone to be manufactured by Motorola ?

g1v2

The image displayed above is possibly, the picture of T-Mobile G1 v2. But, we doubt, if the device is that of HTC. And, as per some rumors, it is manufactured by Motorola. If that’s true, then this would be the first Android powered phone by Motorola.

If you take a closer look, you can make out how different the buttons are, when compared to the buttons of HTC devices, and specifically the T-Mobile G1. Even the keyboard is quite different.

The T-Mobile G1 v2 was supposed to be a true “successor” of T-mobile G1 aka HTC dream. But, it seems there’s going to be vast differences.

Are you a Canadian resident and had an eye on the HTC dream or HTC Magic, ever since it was launched in some other parts of the world? If your answer is yes, then its time for you to rejoice!

Because, Rogers Wireless has announced the launch of both the Android powered devices currently in the market, to flock the Canadian market on the 2nd of June.

John Boynton, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Rogers Wireless said, “Who else but Rogers would be the first carrier to offer Canadians the first chance to join the mobile revolution with a choice of not one, but two, handsets powered by the Android platform? The HTC Magic offers a responsive touch screen and the HTC Dream delivers both a touch screen and a slide out QWERTY keyboard. Both devices offer outstanding wireless internet search capabilities and a full suite of applications that run two times faster on Canada’s fastest mobile network.”
