Chinese phones running Android OS about to make their foray into European market. Also includes few pictures

Three Chinese companies are working on porting Android OS to some of their devices, and claim that these devices will be available in the European market, later this year.

Beyond Radio Technologies, a Chinese cell designer is one of them. Liu, an engineer with Beyond Radio Technologies reported that these devices will hit the European market later this year. Then, these devices will be available in China and Taiwan too. The device will sport a 2.8 inch screen and WiFi, but no 3G or EDGE. Here’s a sneak peak at the device :

Another company that is working on such a device is Haier Technologies. According to a marketing employee of the company, the device will go on sale in France, in September. The device was showcased at a trade show in Singapore :

Huawei Technologies is the other company that is planning to hit the European market with its Android powered device. There is not much details available about the device, but it will probably release in Q3 2009. Also, we have a picture of the device :

Liu said, “We think Android is the future direction for mobile phones”. He also contributed the growing interest of cell-phone companies towards the OS to its low cost.

How important is HTC HERO for HTC and Android OS?

It has been three years since the Apple released their iPhone and since then, we have seen a lot companies coming out with “iPhone-killers”, but no company till now has been actually able to offer something that iPhone offers: coolness. As odd as it sounds, but people now want easy-to-use interface, something which has no-to-very-little learning curve. HTC has released a lot handsets in the past few years and lets face it, it is through HTC that Windows Mobile is alive till now. Otherwise, it would been dead a long time back.

Last year, HTC came up with T-Mobile G1, which was the first Google Android phone, but it was never touted as ‘iphone-killer’, because it just was not one. By various online sources, HTC HERO is going to be the first real “iPhone-killer” and I too agree that HTC HERO is the first phone that has a UI that is more slick and fluid than iPhone’s UI. The phone is so much straight forward and easy to use and combined with the power and flexibility of the Android OS, looks we’ve a winner in our hands.

HTC has done a tremendous work in customizing the Google Android OS so that even a beginner can jump-start using it. It is, however, interesting to note that myriad of HTC’s Windows Mobile phones are running the same processor  suffer from sluggishness. I am not sure the reason behind this: either Android OS is highly CPU efficient or Windows Mobile is a BETA product. Whatever the case is, we are sure about one thing: Google Android OS will very soon become the favorite OS of a lot of people around.

Android apps ported to Ubuntu

Had you ever imagined applications meant for the Android OS running on your notebook loaded with Ubuntu OS ? If not, then you can and you should imagine it now. Because, developers at Cannonical successfully ported some Android apps onto Ubuntu. This was unveiled at the Ubuntu Developer Summit in Barcelona on Tuesday.

Here’s a pic of a desktop PC running some Android apps :

Google’s Android is based on Linux platform. But, its built on Google’s custom Java runtime. So, that makes it more convenient for use in mobile phones and tablet PCs and not in desktops.

But, this development would surely pave the way for future development of Android to make it more user-friendly and to be used in deskptop PCs. Even in the past, we have had news about Android notebooks and netbooks in the making (by companies like Skytone, HP and T-Mobile).

So, lets hope that Android soon makes its way into the notebook arena and we get a taste of the Open-Source environment in our notebooks.

Android devices released in Taiwan today

HTC Dream and HTC Magic, the two Android powered mobile phones have been officially launched in Taiwan today.

Here are a few pictures of the official release :

It remains to see how well these two devices are able to capture the Taiwanese market. It would be interesting to see how well the Magic is accepted in the Asian market, as Magic has a capacitive screen and there is no hardware keyboard to input the text. And, it is difficult to type in Asian characters (Chinese, Taiwanese, etc.) on the capacitive screen. Perhaps, that’s the major reason that the devices with resistive screen are still ruling the Asian market.

T-Mobile Android netbook coming?

We have all witnessed and sensed the hype and craze surrounding the Android OS since the date it was launched. Every other day, we get news, or should I say, rumors about some or the other company launching an Android product (be it ASUS, Samsung, verizon or HTC).

Today, we have a similar news about Android notebooks. But this comes from an unexpected company, when it comes to notebooks. This news comes from T-Mobile. As per sources, T-Mobile is planning to launch Android powered notebooks, possibly by the end of this year. Rumor has it that it would be made by HTC.

The device is yet to be named. But, the availability of inbuilt 3G connectivity is confirmed. The date of release has not been finalized yet, but probably it will be launched by the end of this year. If this possible date turns into reality, T-Mobile would be one of the first companies to launch an Android notebook.

Now, I see a real surging and bright future of the Android OS in both the notebooks and the mobile phones market. As far as I can recall, no other Operating system in the market had ever experienced such craze and demand in such a short span of time.

We do not have much information about the features available “in the box”. But, as we can see the number of third party applications being released in the Android Market, and the great works of the guys at xda-developers, I am sure it wont take long before any of the missing functionality are added by the developers.
