Infographic of iOS vs Android in Mobile Ad Market of China

Android and iOS are two of the most popular platforms in the world. Of course, there are other mobile operating systems, too, but without prejudice they are far away from the popularity of these two. Every day we see many comparisons where the main roles are played by Android-powered and iOS-based handsets. One of them I met today, and I have to say that when the manufacturers have their best it is difficult to give preference to any smartphone, because both of these platforms are perfect.

Well, it’s obvious that Android and iOS are both really cool, but there are a few cases when one of them takes over and the other yields. Chinese company Guohe Ad decided to focus on two of the coolest platforms and find out which of them is more popular in China.

The infographic below shows how Android and iOS perform in China’s mobile ad market. Here are many expected and unpredictable statistics; 80 percent of all ad impressions come from 10 regions; as iOS has the biggest mobile app store, iOS is counted for 58 percent of all ad impressions; Android has basically become popular due to HTC, Samsung and Motorola. There are larger click-through rates for smartphones than for tablets, though mobile ad impressions on all tablet devices continues to increase. Here the iPad is a single leader — more than 98 percent of total tablet impressions over the first half of 2011.

If these numbers say something, than go on…

Top Ten Android Smartphones (July, 2011)

The smartphone market is full of Android handsets, and Google does its best to keep its authority. There are many kinds of Android smartphones designed for different groups of people — some of them are classified as high-end devices and cost much, the others are mid-range or low-end phones that are less expensive. So it’s the right time to choose the best ones among all these Android smartphones.

We decided to address to our friends from AndroidCentral, and below is the top 10 of the best Android smartphones of July 2011. This rank refers only the data analyzed for July, so if your Android-based smartphone is out from this list, maybe it will appear in the next month’s rank.

Before I introduce the list, it’ll be better to meet the rules of election: “We look at what phones you’re visiting the site with, and searching for. And what phones you’re searching for in our store. What phones you’re talking about.”

And here is our Top Ten of the most popular Android Smartphones

We add the launch date and the operating system’s version they were released with for more clarity:

Over 500,000 Android Devices Activated Every Day

During the I/O Event that took place in the beginning of May, Google announced that about 400,000 Android devices were activated daily. Less than two months have passed since that announcement, and now Andy Rubin, Google’s vice president of engineering and the one responsible for the Android platform, says the number of daily activated Android devices has grown to 500,000.

“There are now 500,000 Android devices activated every day, and it’s growing at 4.4% w/w,” reads his recent tweet.

According to IDC, not so long ago Android lost a bit of its market share (for the first time since 2009), but not because it had low sales or something. Just the iPhone4 from Verizon was really popular and had great sales, grabbing a bigger market share. But anyway, Android devices are still selling well, and besides, Android is the most popular platform among developers at the moment – 67 percent of them create apps and software for Google’s OS, and I guess  this fact is unlikely to change in the nearest future.

Unfortunately, Apple doesn’t announce how many iPhone devices are activated every day, so it’s rather difficult to compare Apple and Google. But we know that Apple activated 18.1 million devices in the second quarter of this year (January-March), and about 180 million iPhones during a year (March 2010-March 2011). 180 million/365 days = about 295.890,4. So it seems like less than 300,000 iPhones running iOS are activated by Apple daily.

But remember, it’s not really correct to compare Apple’s iOS with Google’s Android, since Apple sells only one single smartphone based on iOS, and there are many, many manufacturers (Motorola and HTC are perhaps the biggest ones among them) that develop and sell Android-based smartphones.

A clearer and closer view of Motorola Morrison

Remember the Motorola Morrison, the first Android-powered toy by the company ? A few days back, there rumors about the device in the making. But, there were no other details about the device. Now, the specs and the speculated release date have been leaked.

The device would come loaded with the following features :

  • Qualcomm 528 MHz CPU
  • 256 MB of RAM
  • 512 MB flash memory
  • microSDHC support (32GB)
  • 320×480 HVGA display
  • accelerometer
  • magnetometer
  • proximity sensor
  • ambient light sensor
  • 5 MP camera with autofocus
  • Geotagging
  • Also, GPS, 3G support, and wi-fi

This device was supposed to be an entry-level phone. And, the specs seem quite decent for a low-budget device. But, the looks of the device does not go with the image of a business-class device. So, this device would probably target the youth. And, the speculated release date of the device is October 21.
