T-Mobile Android netbook coming?

We have all witnessed and sensed the hype and craze surrounding the Android OS since the date it was launched. Every other day, we get news, or should I say, rumors about some or the other company launching an Android product (be it ASUS, Samsung, verizon or HTC).

Today, we have a similar news about Android notebooks. But this comes from an unexpected company, when it comes to notebooks. This news comes from T-Mobile. As per sources, T-Mobile is planning to launch Android powered notebooks, possibly by the end of this year. Rumor has it that it would be made by HTC.

The device is yet to be named. But, the availability of inbuilt 3G connectivity is confirmed. The date of release has not been finalized yet, but probably it will be launched by the end of this year. If this possible date turns into reality, T-Mobile would be one of the first companies to launch an Android notebook.

Now, I see a real surging and bright future of the Android OS in both the notebooks and the mobile phones market. As far as I can recall, no other Operating system in the market had ever experienced such craze and demand in such a short span of time.

We do not have much information about the features available “in the box”. But, as we can see the number of third party applications being released in the Android Market, and the great works of the guys at xda-developers, I am sure it wont take long before any of the missing functionality are added by the developers.

No Android netbooks from ASUS until 2010

Every other day, we get news (or should I say rumours) about some or the other company releasing an Android powered netbook, some time in the near future. But today, we have heard of something opposite to that.

Yesterday, ASUS published its financial results, and it gives clear indication that ASUS wont produce any Android powered netbook before 2010. Here’s what the report says :

  • Asus will continue to produce netbooks powered by Windows XP in 2009
  • According to Asus CEO, X86 processors are more popular due to wide spectrum of applications available
  • Netprofit decreased by 94% (this includes overall netprofit though)
  • Netbooks running other operating system will emerge in Q1 2010. Not before that.

The fourth point is a clear indicator that ASUS plans to launch netbooks running “other Operating System” (read it as Android), in the first quarter of 2010.
