Innocomm to launch Android-powered Skate soon : a few videos featured on youtube

Every Android-powered device starts making news even before it goes into the manufacturing stage. But videos of Skate, an Android-powered smartphone by Innocomm Inc. is already making rounds on youtube.com and we had no hint about this device till date. Innocomm claims that Skate is “the World’s smallest 2.8″ smartphone based on the Android OS.”

Expect some Android devices by Touch Revolution this year

I have been always saying “Android is going places”, because Android is being launched in a large number of countries. But, Android is also exploring newer areas and newer horizons. Touch Revoltion, a company owned by a former Apple employee, is planning to launch a lot of Android devices. And interestingly, none of them is going to be a cell phone.

The company is working on three categories of products, home control devices, media control devices and home phones. Confused as to what are home phones ? This would be something like a cordless phone, which would work only indoors.

Does this mean that the applications meant for Android smartphone would also run on these devices ? Possible!! There are not many details about the devices.

HTC and TMN to launch Magic in Portugal

Android fans in Portugal can rejoice now, as Portuguese mobile operator, TMN is planning to launch HTC Magic, an Android powered smartphone, in Portugal. The date of release has not been decided as of yet, but users can pre-register their devices.

Also, there is no clue about the pricing. TMN announced that it will start selling the HTC Magic very soon, but exact date was not specified.

First ever complete Office suite for Android to be revealed by ThinkFree

ThinkFree Inc. is planning to demo its productivity suite for the Android OS at the COMPUTEX trade show in Taiwan, from 2nd to 6th of June.

“ThinkFree Mobile for Android is bringing a new level of choice to smartphones by offering a mobile office solution that satisfies the growing demand for mobility and 24/7 access to your documents,” said Kerry McGuire, Director of Software Alliances, ARM. “ThinkFree has brought an innovative approach to the mobile office suite that enables a consistent office experience across both smartphones and netbooks. We are pleased to have their continued support as part of the ARM community.”

This suite will let the user create, view and manipulate word, excel as well as power point docs. It also supports drawing objects, a first of its kind feature for the Android platform. The user will also get 1 GB of free online storage along with the suite.

The package consists of ThinkFree Write for word processing, ThinkFree Calc for spreadsheets and ThinkFree Show for presentations.

Let’s wait and watch, if the application proves to be really as promising as mentioned in its details. All Android user have been waiting for a flawless solution for their MS Office docs. So, we have a ray of hope with this app.

Koolu planning to launch Android powered smartphone in mid-july

Koolu, a Toronto based open-source soecialist, reported that it is going to ship the developer versions of Neo FreeRunner mobile phone running Google’s open-source Android 1.5 “Cupcake” operating system in two week’s time. Possibly, the consumer versions will be available in mid-July.

At this week’s Cloud Expo Europe conference in London, Koolu Chief Technology Officer Jon Hall reported to Zdnet UK, “We’re targeting businesses that want functionality in their phone that they can’t get from Apple, RIM, or any of the proprietary companies”. He also said that they are aiming at small and mid size business classes and the developing countries.

Acer to launch Android powered phone by the year-end

Acer, a Taiwanese computer manufacturer and seller, plans to launch an Android powered smartphone by end of 2009. There are already 10 Windows Mobile based acer smart phones in production, to be launched this year. At the Mobile WOrld Congress, held in February this year, Acer announced four new Windows Mobile based smartphones.

It seems, the computer manufacturer plans to capture a major portion of the cellphones market around the world. As per reports, Acer plans to offer devices with very efficient syncing powers.

Acer’s head of mobile-phone products Aymar De Lencquesaing said in a Bloomberg TV interview, “One of the pain points for users around the world is ‘how do I basically port my environment from one device to another? Because we have a suite of products in the mobile-data space that covers the whole spectrum, we can offer synchronization between all devices.”
