Reducing You Cell Phone Bill

Pennies make pounds, and pounds make profits. It’s always been that way, but it seems that in today’s economy the penny needs to stretch farther that ever before. Cell phones are now a big part of our lives and we have gotten to the point where we rely on them to do many thinks like paying bills and balancing a budget. To have a decent cell phone, you have to have Cell Phone Plans. This is fine, but there are some things you can do to make having a cell phone a bit less costly.

Prepaid Plans

Sometimes cell phone plans end up being far too costly. If you want the benefits of having a cell phone but not the expense of a costly plan, you can go the prepaid route. This is really good for those people who don’t really use their phone much. Not everyone is glued to their mobile and you can put an allotted amount on your phone and once you use up your minutes, that’s it. You don’t have to worry about getting hit with a huge bill because you went over on your minutes.

Unlocked Phones

One of the downsides to having a cell phone plan is the huge cost of the phone itself. You can go to may online retailers and buy an unlocked phone. This basically means that you can get any brand or style of phone that you want and any SIM card will activate the device. This is a great way to fulfill your contract that you’re tied into and not have to spend a fortune to get an upgrade.

Text Apps

If you are constantly going over on your minutes, you might want to look into getting a text app for your phone. You can download them and one app, Textfree, has become a popular way for people to be able to text without having to pay for it. It’s totally unlimited and you can send picture messages as well. Some will even allow you to make calls. Just realize you’ll likely need a cell phone plan, but there are ways that you can make it more affordable.

Family Plans

This is an old standby but it’s still a good way to save money. It should be noted that getting into a family plan doesn’t mean that you have to be related. The phone companies don’t care who’s on your plan, they just want you to pay your bill. You can usually cut down everyone’s costs and get big discounts on your plan. There is, however, one big downside to this approach: other people are using the plan as well. If they go over in their minutes, you go over on your minutes. So if you go in this direction, you should talk about this possibility and how to respond to it beforehand.

If you have any questions about different ways you can make your cell phone plan cheaper, talk to your provider and ask. There are tons of ways you can get by without paying. You might be able to cut out portions of your monthly bill completely. Look into it and see where you could be saving.
