Verizon Launches Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Americans could lose patience waiting for the CDMA/LTE model of the Galaxy Nexus. Fortunately, the first smartphone running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is available starting today via Verizon. Of course, the 4G support and the last version of Google’s platform make a quite attractive coalition, but the fourth generation network has an impact on battery drainage, and I guess users start switching to more traditional methods, thus they are more using PCs, notebooks and tablets, which is more comfortable but requires a contract with an Internet Service Provider, say Clear Internet. Anyway, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is available in stores, so let’s get acquainted with all the conditions in detail.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is packed with a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, 1GB of RAM, 16 or 32GB of internal storage, but it can’t be expanded because of the microSD card slot’s lack, a 5MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, a 1.3MP front facing camera for wen chat, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and 1850mAh battery.

As for software, it is the first smartphone running Ice Cream Sandwich, but what is interesting the device has got an update before the launch. Thus users will find Android 4.0.2 software version in it. There are also a couple of carrier apps, but they can be disabled due to ICS’s built-in app disable feature.

Verizon requires $299.99 and consumers have to sign a two-year contract with it. While some people may think this is a high price tag, I guess geeks have been expecting something like this, right?

Android Leads in US Smartphone Market in Q2

Yesterday NPD Group posted its next report where we can find many interesting facts about Android. We have already investigated many reports showing how popular Google’s operating system is: Verizon Still Dominates in Android Market with 41% Share; Android 2.3 Taking 24% of Android Devices; Android is the number one platform in 35 of 56 countries; Android Tablets Getting 30% Market Share and so on.

Now NPD Group’s report gives a new reason to all Android fans to be proud of their favorite platform — Android has accounted for 52 percent of the U.S. smartphone market in Q2.

The best selling smartphone in the U.S. at the moment is the iPhone 4, leaving behind the iPhone 3GS, the HTC Evo 4G and the HTC Inspire 4G. So here we can say, though HTC yields to Apple, Android is in the leading positions.

Well, let’s return to Android’s success. According to the report, 52 percent of the smartphones sold in the U.S. during Q2 ran Android, 29percent ran iOS, 11 percent ran RIM’s BlackBerry OS, and Windows Phone 7, Windows Mobile, webOS have less than 5 percent of market share.

What is interesting, 44 percent of all Android handsets sold in Q2 were manufactured by Motorola, and now when Google is going to buy it for $12.5 billion we see its market share drops to 22 percent. The main “culprits” of this are Samsung and LG. Though Google and Motorola’s fans have no reason to worry about, as Motorola has 12 percent of the smartphone market in Q2.

Verizon Still Dominates in Android Market with 41% Share

We are always attentive to Android, because no one can disagree it goes forward walking tall. Of course, you are aware Google’s mobile operating system has conquered the half of the world, there are U.S. states completely “obsessed” by it, 30 percent of the tablet market belongs to Android, it is developers’ favorite platform and it is the second popular platform in the UK.

Have you ever thought which carrier dominates in the Android market (I’m not speaking about the Marketplace :))? The fact is that Verizon dominates in this area, but other carriers try not to stay behind.

According to latest study by Chitika, an online advertising network, Verizon’s Android smartphone share in the U.S. has decreased from 51.418 percent (March) to 41.05 percent. Though Big Red is the leader, a 10 percent loss is a serious thing, because every day Google activates more than 550.000 Android handsets.

As you see in the graphic Sprint is on the second position with 25.74 percent share, and AT&T dashed reaching 8.47 percent from 3.583 percent. It was done especially due to the HTC Inspire which is one of the most affordable handsets on AT&T’s stores.

So we can summarize Verizon remains the best partner for Google, and it is not accidental as Verizon’s stores are full of Android-based handsets.
